How can we help you and your pup?

Battery savers can pause GPS, which leaves gaps or straight-line jumps in your route. To keep recording with the screen locked, PackTales needs background location permission.

• iPhone: Settings → PackTales → Location → “Always”, with Precise Location on. Turn off Low Power Mode for long walks.
• Android: Settings → Apps → PackTales → Battery → “Unrestricted”, turn off Battery Saver, and allow location “All the time” with precise location.
• Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and Huawei phones have their own “sleeping apps” lists. Make sure PackTales isn’t on them.
• Start outdoors with a clear view of the sky so your phone can lock on before you set off.
• If the app closes mid-walk, reopen it: PackTales offers to resume the walk it saved on your phone.

Parks, vets, water fountains and waste bins come from OpenStreetMap, a map built by volunteers. Details can be missing or out of date, and changes take a little while to reach the app.

• Check you’re online. Map tiles and places need a connection (walks still record offline).
• Zoom in: water and waste bin pins only load for a neighborhood-sized area, and refresh every 15 minutes.
• Move the map slightly or reopen the screen to reload places around you.
• Wrong details? Tap ⚑ Report on the place and choose “Wrong or outdated information”, or fix it at openstreetmap.org.

You saved the walk without a connection, so it’s safe on your phone. It uploads by itself as soon as you’re back online, including its photos.

• Open PackTales with a connection and give it a moment.
• If it shows an error, tap Retry. Discard only if you don’t need that walk.
• Don’t delete the app while walks are waiting, or they’ll be lost.

• Allow notifications for PackTales in your phone’s settings.
• Check Focus / Do Not Disturb modes. They can hide reminders.
• Open PackTales once a week so it can schedule the next week of reminders on your phone.
• Make sure the reminder isn’t paused on your dog’s Care reminders list.

• You both need to have accepted each other as friends.
• Your friend has to turn on live location or share that walk. It’s always their choice.
• Blocked accounts can’t see each other at all.

• Use “Forgot password?” on the sign-in screen to get a reset link.
• Signed up with Google or Apple? Use that same button. Those accounts have no password.
• New accounts must confirm their email first. Check your spam folder.
• Still stuck? Email Shane9020@icloud.com from the address you signed up with.

Delete your account any time in Settings → Danger zone → Delete Account. It permanently removes your profile, dogs, trails, posts and photos.
